Biography

KWON Hayoun (b. 1981) explores the vast potential of new media technology as it stretches across the spectrum of animation, documentary, 3D, and virtual reality (VR). Artist weaves stories of the time, memory, stories of the people who intermediate with her. Based on historical events or doubts about collective memory, the artist meets people who have experienced it and organizes the work based on their voices and personal memories. As a result, the events in work lies between the facts that we have accepted and the truth of those who have actually experienced them. Through experiencing the conflict and amalgamation between our memories and new testimony, our stories and memories are newly rebuilt. The event, space, time, and narratives in the work start from an extremely objective foundation, but the viewer can verify the truth of the incident in the process of experiencing the path given by the artist, becomes increasingly private and confused, which is a unique the artist’s work has.
