KOO Jiyoon graduated from Korea National University of Arts and the School of Art Institute of Chicago majoring in Fine Arts. She received her master's degree in New York University majoring in Studio Art. The artist who presents construction sites in her works also uses the architectural process in production such as stacking, tearing down, assembling and deconstructing. She transforms these processes in a pictorial manner by applying thick layers of paint on the canvas then scraping it away, repeating the procedure of creating and eliminating images. The 'Face-Scape' series started in 2009 are abstract paintings where formative factors such as lines and surfaces that resemble construction sites and the human expression are entangled together. Through these works KOO represents the impulsive and insecure emotional state of the people of the contemporary society.
