“Saekdong TV Mandala” represents the color frequency of the television through the incorporation of Obangsaek in KIM Soun-Gui’s use of the Saekdong fabric. Obangsaek, the traditional Korean color spectrum, includes five colors—black, blue, red, white, and yellow—, which corresponds with the five cardinal directions—north, east, south, west, and center—and the five elements of the universe—water, wood, fire, metal, and earth. Embodying the meaning of life in relation to the body, direction, and seasons, this traditional color theory represents the power of the universe and the order of humans.
