Artists to Watch at Art Busan 2025

AHN Jisan consistently explores the emotions of anxiety and desire that reside deep within the human psyche, projecting them onto specific situations of her own construction. (...) His recent works place figures within urban settings at the forefront. Dark, shadowy backgrounds; faces obscured by masks and synthetic wigs; broken guitars; hands clutching withered flowers; and snake-like bodies coiled into circles all serve to reveal the underlying fears and anxieties of modern individuals.

Though his scenes depict reality, the images are subtly distorted or slightly off-kilter, heightening visual tension. The subjects, slipping away from the confines of the real, evoke an innate sense of unease. By applying thick layers of paint, she emphasizes the physicality of the medium, further intensifying the tension and somber atmosphere in her work.
