Arario Museum Jeju Unveils PARK Wunggyu’s Solo Exhibition New Body

Arario Museum Jeju is presenting New Body, a solo exhibition by PARK Wunggyu, at its Project Underground space located in the historic Tapdong Cinema. PARK is known for his continued exploration of “negativity”—themes such as disgust, fear, and impurity—through the visual language of religious painting. Across various series, he has appropriated sacred forms to evoke intense emotional responses.

In New Body, PARK unveils his latest works including the Pseudo-Folktale series Palsangdo and Gusangdo, which borrow narrative structures and formats from traditional Buddhist paintings. Through these reinterpretations, PARK assigns new mythologies to figures symbolizing negativity. The exhibition also features works that served as the origin and foundation for the two series, providing a contextual lens through which viewers can trace the evolution of PARK’s sculptural and painterly language.
