Veteran sculptor UM Tai-Jung, a pioneering figure in Korean abstract sculpture, believes that sculpture plays a role similar to that of philosophical inquiry. In his view, the act of erecting a sculpture brings forth “a world of its own.” The exhibition World Worlds, currently on view at ARARIO GALLERY SEOUL in Wonseo-dong, offers a rare opportunity to encounter this line of thought. Spanning from his sculptural works of the 1970s to paintings and drawings from the 2000s, as well as newly completed pieces from early this year, the show presents a comprehensive overview of UM’s sculptural universe—featuring many works previously unseen by the public.
