What might the inside of the softly glowing structure—this “sanctuary”—look like? Is it empty, or is it full? As viewers explore their own “stranger,” they step into a world of their own. UM describes this moment by borrowing the words of philosopher Martin Heidegger: “The world worlds.” This is the very theme of his first solo exhibition in six years. “Heidegger said that an artwork opens up a world in and of itself,” UM explains. “When a single sculpture is erected, the magical force inherent in it transforms the existing space into a new one. That is when the healing power of art offers us comfort.”
