LEE Jinju, Discontinuouscontinuity

“Complexly intertwined experiences and memories exist like layers of veils. I wanted to lift those veils and translate the fleeting sensations into painting,” says LEE Jinju (45). Her solo exhibition “Discontinuouscontinuity”, opening on August 13 at ARARIO GALLERY SEOUL, creates tension in painting through the “veils” that divide the canvas and the blackness that engulfs them. Scenes in which the hidden and the revealed, the absent and the present, interlock and drift apart fill the entire exhibition space. Trained in traditional Korean painting, LEE captures unfamiliar moments and objects from everyday life using classical coloring techniques. Her delicate brushwork and long, careful observation foster a gaze that both directly confronts and gently envelops the subject.
