At Arario Gallery Seoul, the solo exhibition “Avant Garde Does Not Surrender” by Insane PARK explores the concept of vandalism the deliberate destruction of cultural heritage artworks or public facilities through digital video and related media.

In one of the works, the artist fills the interior of the word “Galleries” with matchsticks and performs an action in an open lot while wearing a mask made from a plastic bag. He ignites the portion of the word that contains the letters “LIES,” suggesting that the entire act is grounded in a fabricated truth.

The scene is presented from three different perspectives the video recorded directly by the artist for documentation the footage taken by a passerby who happened to witness the event and the recording captured by a preexisting CCTV camera installed on site.

The artist has also created an “Amateur Vandal Kit,” which includes a USB drive containing the CCTV footage, spray paint for graffiti and a mask made from a plastic bag. Each kit comes with a certificate of authenticity and a usage manual and is released in a limited edition of one hundred. The kit is sold for 220,000 won.
