LEE Eunsil, Surging Waves

LEE Eunsil’s solo exhibition Surging Waves is on view at ARARIO GALLERY SEOUL through January 31, 2026. Working from techniques rooted in East Asian painting, LEE visualises emotions that emerge where personal desire collides with social norms. Her practice closely examines primal instincts and desires that are suppressed or concealed within civilised society, translating the psychological conflicts that arise from them into a metaphorical language of painting. This exhibition marks LEE’s first solo presentation at ARARIO GALLERY and the first time she brings to the forefront the theme of childbirth, a subject she has long contemplated. Under the exhibition title, which likens the major and minor turning points encountered in life to the height of waves, ten new works are presented across the first floor and basement level of ARARIO GALLERY SEOUL.

Meanwhile, works produced between 2007 and 2024 are on view on the third and fourth floors during the same period. From early paintings that depict the psychological conflicts of individuals confronting traditional customs and social conventions, to more recent works that gradually strip away external factors to focus on inner emotional currents, the exhibition traces the trajectory of LEE Eunsil’s evolving artistic practice.
