LEE Eunsil, Surging Waves

LEE Eunsil brings to the forefront, for the first time in this exhibition, memories of childbirth that she had long kept tucked away in a drawer. She strips away the social conventions that have sealed childbirth within words such as “blessing” and “joy,” and instead summons landscapes filled with waves, lava, whirlpools, and mist. As suggested by the exhibition title, which likens major turning points in life to the height of waves, each canvas is swept by surges of differing scale and velocity as they pass across the body.
