DON Sunpil: Re-Reset

The phrase Gloomy Tangerine originates from a mistranslation—a misheard joke from a Japanese manga. Borrowed as the title of the current exhibition, it becomes a point of departure for exploring the sense of dissonance that arises between the real and the virtual, the original and the imitation. This misrendered phrase resonates uncannily with the world of tokusatsu (Japanese special effects cinema), where clumsy, hand-crafted forms strive to reproduce reality, revealing its fragility in the process.
