Swaying Sensations

The landscapes in LIM Nosik’s paintings originate from his early encounters with vast natural environments. Rather than simply reproducing scenery, his landscapes embody complex layers of sensation and emotion, offering viewers a renewed experience of place. In his recent series, he covers depicted scenes with translucent layers of oil pastel, blurring the surface—an approach that expresses the sensory perception of both the subject and himself. This process results in textures that appear to accumulate time and space, revealing vague, hazy forms that evoke lyrical impressions over the objective reality of the depicted subject.
The wildflowers scattered across the canvas and the luminous landscapes drifting like mist capture fleeting moments of vitality—those that vanish, that fade. They gently stir latent memories and sensations within the viewer. In Lim’s work, exterior and interior, reality and imagery are layered upon one another. These landscapes, as visual monologues or quiet confessions, invite us to rediscover the sensory depth inherent in painting.
