Born from the Digital Realm: Emerging Artists Between Reality and Virtuality

A solo exhibition by OK Seungcheol (age 37), titled PROTOTYPE, is currently on view at the LOTTE Museum of Art in Songpa-gu, Seoul. The exhibition features more than 80 works, including new pieces. OK’s practice centers on exploring the relationship between digital images and physical reality. Drawing inspiration from characters in comics and films, he creates digital renderings which are then printed and painted over with acrylics. In some cases, these digital images are transformed into plaster sculptures. By giving material form to infinitely reproducible digital images, the artist raises fundamental questions: What is the original, and what is a copy?
