A Preview of the 2026 Changwon Sculpture Biennale: The Language of Sculpture Connecting the World and Humanity

The prologue exhibition that opens the 2026 Changwon Sculpture Biennale, titled Resonance Tuning, A Prelude for the Field of Resonance, is currently on view at the basement level one exhibition hall of Seongsan Art Hall in Changwon. The two artistic directors, who began their journeys in Seoul and Shanghai and later spent long periods in China and Germany respectively, draw on perspectives shaped through movement across different cultural contexts. Together, they construct the biennale’s core sensibilities of resonance, relationality, and recontextualization.

Artist BEAK Jungki creates new sculptural bodies that escape conventional monumentality by applying imaginative distortions and transformations to three dimensional scans of statues. These sculptural forms transmit novel readings as radio signals, expanding sculpture beyond a purely visual medium and positioning it as a conduit for signals, memory, and lingering echoes.
