UM Tai-Jung, World Worlds

Ahn Soyeon, Art in Culture, 1 August 2025
Upon entering the dimly lit exhibition hall, one comes face to face with a certain presence. UM Tai-Jung endowed this form with the name “The Stranger” and the sense of place called “Sanctuary.” (...) The dynamism conveyed by non-metal materials produced from industrial processes was more than enough to amplify the reverence he held for matter as a sculptor. Like a kind of alchemy, UM, who has long perceived metal as mineral, contemplated the temporality embedded in the material itself before it takes the form of sculpture.
