Unbo Kim Ki Chang, a towering figure in modern Korean art, left behind an extraordinary body of work numbering more than ten thousand pieces. His unwavering devotion to painting, never setting down his brush until the end of his life, stemmed from a deep love for his mother. When Unbo lost his hearing at the age of eight due to an acquired condition, it was his mother who recognized his artistic talent early on. She arranged for him to study under the painter Yi Dang Kim Eun Ho, who would become his lifelong mentor, and supported her son wholeheartedly, both materially and emotionally.
