Stepping into the black curtained space to experience Non-Physical Exhibition, visitors are met with the sound of a siren and drifting smoke. A reconstructed voice of the late artist JUNG Kangja, generated through artificial intelligence, announces: “You are now inside my work.” Through the use of light and sound, the artist sought to expand art from something merely viewed into something experienced. Yet the work was forcibly dismantled after just three days in 1970 on charges of political agitation. Leeum Museum of Art has now reconstructed the piece 56 years later.
