Anselm KIEFER was born in Donaueschingen, Germany in 1945. He studied law, literature and French at the University of Freiburg and in 1696 went to study at the Karlsruhe Art Academy. Acclaimed as the most important artist that Germany has produced since Joseph Beuys, Anselm KIEFER belongs to the generation of expressionist German painting that emerged in the 1970s. In 1992 he moved to France and continues to live and work in Barjac, France.
