[News] Only the Young: Experimental Art in Korea, 1960s-1970s

The exhibition "Only the Young: Experimental Art in Korea, 1960s-1970s", which was held at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art from May to July in Korea, is on tour at the Guggenheim Museum under the title "Only the Young." The two organizations co-organized the exhibition through joint research since 2018. The exhibition, which presents about 80 works, looks at the history of experimental art in Korea and introduces major young artists who captured social practice of the time through various experiments. They opposed the formalism of the older generation and used various media, including objects, stereoscopic art, happening, events, movies, and videos, to reflect dynamic social phenomena in their works. As revealed in the titles of sections of exhibition such as 'A New Beginning, The Logic of Resistance, and The Global Village', we can read the perspective of interpreting Korean experimental art, which emerged against the backdrop of political and social chaos in Korea in the 1960s and 1970s, in the context of the avant-garde movement in world art history. The exhibition will run until January 7 next year.
