[News] Who will be the 'Artist of the Year' at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art? Exhibition of works by four finalist artists.

The exhibition featuring the works of the four finalists for the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art's 'Artist of the Year' award will begin tomorrow (25th) at the Seoul branch of the museum.

KWON Hayoun uses virtual reality (VR) to explore themes of memory and documentation.

Her new work, Guardians of Yushan, is part of the artist's East Asian History Trilogy. It draws from the story of the friendship between a tribal chief from Taiwan's indigenous community and a Japanese anthropologist during Japan's colonial rule of Taiwan. Viewers, equipped with VR headsets and holding bamboo or other objects, wander through various locations in Yushan (Jade Mountain) in Taiwan within the virtual environment, becoming part of the narrative between the two characters. As the audience moves around with their headsets, they naturally become part of a shadow play against the backdrop of the exhibition walls, becoming an integral part of the artwork.
