This exhibition draws attention for its resonance with today’s global and domestic circumstances. Ongoing wars and conflicts—such as those between Ukraine and Russia, and Israel and Palestine—continue to shake the world, while in Korea, public division over the recent calls for President Yoon Suk-yeol’s impeachment was equally intense.
(...) One of the most striking works is Indonesian artist Eko NUGROHO's A Beautiful Time in Chaos, which fills an entire wall at the exhibition entrance. Though seemingly chaotic, the piece reflects a certain harmony and beauty, creating a fantastical and mysterious atmosphere. When asked about the subject of his work, Eko Nugroho explained, “At first glance, it may seem like fantasy, but it is a painting. It satirically depicts the absurdity and injustice of reality.” He added, “Through the act of painting, I not only embody the exhibition’s theme of ‘Occupy’ but also suggest that we ‘occupy’ the world’s information.”
