“You Have Entered the Artwork” The Return of Women’s Art Awakens the Senses

When visitors step into the space enclosed by black curtains, a siren sounds, smoke drifts through the room, and lights and the artist’s voice surround the audience. The declaration, “You are now inside my work,” transforms viewers from observers outside the artwork into participants within it. Yet the work was forcibly dismantled during the exhibition. The pantomime performances, happenings, and manifesto readings prepared by JUNG Kangja and the Fourth Group were interrupted amid a social atmosphere that regarded avant-garde art as subversive.

For this exhibition, Leeum reconstructed Non-Physical Exhibition through extensive research and historical verification. The restoration invites viewers to reconsider a woman artist’s experiment in combining the body, action, space, sound, and light within the history of Korean contemporary art.
