Yohan HÀN, KOO Jiyoon

ARARIO GALLERY SEOUL in Jongno, Seoul, is currently hosting simultaneous solo exhibitions by two artists in their 40s.

First, Yohan HÀN (42) presents a diverse body of work under the exhibition title Métissage, encompassing sculptural objects, performances, and installations. At the core of all his works lies performance. In the 2021 Young Korean Artists exhibition organized by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), he drew attention with a performance involving musical instruments. His interest in the drum—a performance instrument—eventually led him to reinterpret it in two-dimensional form, marking the beginning of a new trajectory in his practice.

Meanwhile, KOO Jiyoon (43) has long visualized the breakneck speed and capitalist desires that cause urban architecture to be torn down and rebuilt almost instantaneously, expressing these dynamics through abstract imagery. In this exhibition, however, the sweeping brushstrokes that once embodied a sense of velocity have given way to more meditative gestures. A sense of hesitation and contemplation is now palpable in her brushwork.
