(…) Yohan HÀN makes drums. He sews and patches together animal hides, completing each one as a singular object. These handmade drums take on distinct colors and forms, each shaped by its own making. Rather than replicating the function or sound of a drum, the artist is drawn to its temporal dimension. His sculptural language echoes the form of ancient drums—those that bear the weight of accumulated time. To speculate on the temporality of drums is to imagine the vast expanse of the "before," and in doing so, to reflect on today’s norms through the lens of another time. Somewhere between ritual value and exhibition value, HÀN’s drums resonate with imagined vibrations—where disparate times, territories, and meanings may collapse and intertwine.
