A painter’s canvas is typically a single, flat surface with a clear distinction between front and back. The front becomes a stage where the artist’s thoughts and philosophy unfold, while the back often remains a disregarded space. However, in LEE Jinju’s work, the canvas no longer functions as a conventional, one-dimensional plane. The surface may bend into a cylindrical arc or be composed of multiple overlapping layers. Objects placed between these layered surfaces highlight the artist’s experimental consciousness, making her conceptual approach all the more pronounced.
