KIM Min, Donga Ilbo, 23 November 2023

On May 30, 1968, artist JUNG Kangja (1942–2017) presented the performance "Transparent Balloon and Nude" with artists Jung Chanseung and Kang Kookjin at the music listening room 'C'est Si Bon'. Although she is recorded as a "first-generation experimental artist," at the time she was criticized as "decadent art." Her first solo exhibition in 1970 at the National Public Information Office, titled Incorporeality, was forcibly removed due to its critical societal elements. Afterwards, JUNG Kangja left for Singapore with her family.

In Singapore, JUNG Kangja continued to work, producing pieces incorporating the Indonesian dyeing technique 'Batik'. In the early 1980s, she returned to Korea, ran an art academy, taught students during the day, and painted at night. ARARIO GALLERY SEOUL in Jongno-gu, Seoul, is holding a solo exhibition titled It Has Always Been The Beginning until next month on the 30th, showcasing 40 works by JUNG Kangja from 1995 to 2010.
