JUNG Kangja’s Avant-Garde Work, Removed After Just Three Days, Reawakens 56 Years Later

The exhibition also stands as an unfortunate chapter in art history, having survived only through records after being forcibly dismantled just three days after opening by a government that viewed the Fourth Group as a subversive force. Cho Eunjung, curator at Leeum Museum of Art and organizer of the exhibition, explained, “We studied contemporaneous media reports, the artist’s working notes, and installation photographs preserved by her family in order to reconstruct the exhibition as closely as possible to the original.”

Although JUNG Kangja’s experiment was suppressed by authoritarian state power in 1970, it returns in 2026, allowing viewers to experience the atmosphere of that time with their whole body.
