KIM Hanna: I'm home

28 October - 30 November 2008 Seoul
Press release

Arario Gallery Seoul is happy to present a solo exhibition of Arario’s youngest artist Hanna Kim, starting from October 28th continuing until November 23rd. This exhibition is Kim’s 3rd solo exhibition following her first in 2006 at Alternative Space Loop, and second in 2007 at Arario Gallery Beijing. Kim is well known for her sweet representation of daily moments shared between the character “Hanna” and her friend “Bunny.” This exhibition is constructed of Kim’s new oil paintings and drawings, as well as sculptures and animation, totaling to approximately 40 works.

The exhibition is titled “I’m Home” for several reasons. Compared to Kim’s previous exhibitions which showed sceneries of pleasant afternoons and trivial but precious activities of Hanna and Bunny, there seems to be a new twist to their daily lives. For reasons one will find out at the exhibition, Hanna and Bunny are separated for some time, and they suffer days of isolation and desperate searching for each other. Through this time, they realize the significance of having each other in their lives.

Taking advantage of the floor plan of the gallery space, the exhibition is separated into two zones, each floor holding separate stories of Hanna and Bunny. The experience is similar to walking through a children’s story book, which will remind the audience of their childhood. One will remember their old time friends who they played silly with, heartaches through losing them and adjusting to new environments, what it means to grow older and become “adults”. We cordially invite you to come and enjoy Hanna and Bunny’s dramatic and yet beautiful journey to retrieve the most valuable treasure in their lives.
