As the forerunner of Korean experimental art, CHOI participated in Korea’s first contemporary art festival, “Daegu Contemporary Art Festival”, in 1974 and inaugurated the experimental art association “35/128” with various leading figures from the event. Driven by his critical consciousness towards reality, the artist selected the most common and cheap materials to create his works. The erased surface of newspapers, a symbolic object of repression, demonstrate his resistance against society.
