DON Sunpil (b. 1984) has explored characters, structures, and other elements frequently found in so called “subculture” as central subjects of his artistic practice. Rather than viewing these elements as marginal or outside the mainstream, the artist approaches them as meaningful social phenomena in their own right and as clues to a shared aesthetic sensibility. In his work, he brings the systems and methods of mainstream institutions into dialogue with these peripheral forms, allowing them to intersect and permeate one another.
