What is the most enjoyable moment for you as an artist?
I feel the most excited when I stand in front of a blank canvas. I love the sound of the brush touching the canvas. Once I begin to get accustomed to that sound, I find great pleasure in the moment when images slowly begin to emerge on the surface. Of course, there is a certain joy in the process of painting and in seeing a work completed. But the time I enjoy most is actually when I am gathering references before I begin working.
I walk through landscapes, look through old photographs, recall memories from the past, and imagine what lies ahead. There is something strangely compelling about the moments when different times intersect and become entangled. For a moment, I feel as though I am floating somewhere in between, belonging neither to the past, present, nor future. Perhaps the painting has already begun in that moment. I love painting. I really do.
