GWON Osang’s Tree, a “Photo Sculpture” created by cutting and assembling photographs into three dimensional forms, began with the familiar act of hanging ornaments on a Christmas tree.
A diverse accumulation of objects and images comes together to form a monumental tree that does not exist in the real world.
Here, photographs move beyond their conventional role as flat records of their subjects. Cut apart and reassembled, they acquire volume and occupy physical space, becoming sculptures in their own right. Through this process, everyday images move beyond mere representation and reenter the physical world as part of a three dimensional reality.
